WE ARE LOOKING FOR VENUE!!
1. Motivation
We want to give African children dreams! Many people go to Africa.
Mainly they want to inform the poor environments of Africa and desperate situations of African people by taking pictures, movies, and writings. Through these methods, Africa can get more sponsorship; of course African people get more helps.
Therefore, many people try to participate in various ways for supporting Africa directly and indirectly. We also went to Africa. We visited Mehaba Refuge in Zambia where two Korean priests are working relief efforts and missionary works.
We wanted to do something especially for children and youth in Mehaba refuge. In many pictures and images, we recognized that African children and youth are described as the worst victims of poverty and starvation in Africa. We wanted to give them dreams as gifts.
How do we give them dreams? How about presenting them cameras to get experiences to take some pictures? We guessed that children might not be familiar with taking a picture. Just they might have some experiences to be an object in pictures of the others.
We expected children to take some pictures which contain their wishes and dreams. This project just started from a pure yarning to give African children dreams as gifts.
2.Questions
Why Cameras? Not Bread?
We started to conduct a campaign to raise a fund for buying 2000 cameras. But people asked us 'why do you fundraise for cameras, not for food or cloths?'
We had to explain them why it is for cameras instead of other needs.
We thought that camera is the good device to contain children's dream on the picture, and this picture will show us their dreams, wish, and hope. If we give them a chance to take some pictures, then if we send them back their pictures after developing films, we thought it will be great gifts for African children.
And we expect them to have a good dream through this experience. Even only for one child, if he can get a good dream from this project, we consider that our project is very successful. Not just giving them money, we want to offer cultural supports. This belief led us to Zambia with 2000 cameras.
3. "I have a dream, you too!!"
We rediscover our dreams in the picture which contains African children's dreams.
We wanted to meet African children, to feel the real Africa seen by African children's eyes, and to share their dreams with us. We realize through this project that our pureness and dreams in our hearts also start to revive by sharing African children#39;s pictures. They have invaluable heritages in spite of their poor environments.
That is the pure dream of them. And through pictures which contain children#39;s dreams, our dreams become full of life.
A camera is the medium that connect African children with us. A camera contained children's dreams wonderfully reflects children's dreams, and delivers their dreams to us. Like this, the project "I have a dream"
becomes a big festival, which enables a mutually beneficial relationship between African children and us, enables sharing and participations rather than the one way aid "we give you, receive it'.
