Guitarist Dimitris Dekavallas



Once described by Julian Bream as a ‘very exciting’ performer, Dimitris Dekavallas has always been considered one of the most talented guitarists of his age.

He was born in Athens-Greece in 1982 and began learning the guitar at the age of 6. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music guitar studies under Micheal Lewin, Timothy Walker and John Mills, where he won the Tebutt Exibition Scholarship Prize, the ‘Blyth Watson Award’, and the IKY NATIONAL Scholarship Foundation in Greece.

In 2007 he received his Diploma of Postgraduate Performance (Distinction) in guitar and his L.R.A.M. Teaching Diploma (Distinction). Dimitris has played in masterclasses with George Hatzinikos, David Russell, Hubert Käppel, Carlos Marchione and Carlos Domeniconi. He has also played in workshops with John Williams, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

He has taken part in many guitar competitions and music festival and he has won more than 10 prizes in international and national competitions including the ‘Eduard Pamfil’ International Competition, and ‘Ivor Mairants’ International guitar competition. Dimitris has given recitals in England, Greece, Italy, France and Romania. He also works for Live Music Now. He currently lives in London and teaches the guitar at Downe House School, and Highams Park School. Dimitris plays with a ‘G. Smallman’ (2000) guitar on loan from the Royal Academy.


Violinist Daniel Pioro




Daniel Pioro was born in 1986 and began studying the violin and piano at the age of four. At the age of eight he gave his first solo recital with Orchestra, playing Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and began giving regular private recitals in Italy and England. Between the ages of ten and sixteen Daniel won first prize in every violin category of the North London and Ealing String Competitions and studied privately with Viktoria Grigoreva as well as studying at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music. In 2003 Daniel took first prize at the London Bach Competition in its inaugural year.

In 2004 Daniel won the Geoffrey Shaw Scholarship in the finals of the Musician’s Benevolent Fund awards, and was then awarded a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music to study under Professor Maurice Hasson.

While at the Academy Daniel has been invited to perform with quartet at the Paganini and Peter Maxwell-Davies Festivals as well as winning the Sydney Griller Memorial Prize and Sir John Barbirolli Prize in his first two years.

Why not pick up a penguin?

Hitch: Bona Shin and Minah Kim from Theatre 4 all
A host of homeless penguins are due to hit New Malden High Street on June 14 to raise awareness of their natural habitat being destroyed by global warming.

Local arts group Theatre 4 All is calling for residents to join their Penguin Parade in costume and enjoy artistic performances on the day to help highlight growing concern about environmental issues.

Budding birds interested in joining the march, which is part of the 2nd New Malden Arts Festival between June 2 and June 22, should email theatre4all@gmail.com .

Photographer SEJIN MOON

Sejin Moon is a photographer based in Edinburgh, and currently runs a photography business, Photo by Moon Photography. Sejin was born in 1978 in Pusan, South Korea, and has known since childhood that she wanted to become a photographer. Her passion to master the art led her to study photography formally in South Korea. She is also starting to study for a Masters degree in Photography this year at Edinburg College of Art, in order to make a career in photojournalism and documentary.
